Assignment #1 In the last 15 (but especially in the last 5) NO was discover to have a multiple of functions in the body. One of the most important function is its role has a second messenger mediating smooth muscle relaxing. Write a short (2-4 page double spaced 12 font) report explaining how NO plays this role. In your report make sure to include : 1) How is NO synthesized in different cells ? 2) Compare the constituitive and inducible forms of NO synthase . 3) Compare the different stimuli in the different tissues for NO production 4) The relation of NO to EDF Your paper should include at least three additional references in addition to the paper I distributed. You may and are encouraged to work in groups. Assigment II 1. Calculate the resting potential for Ca++ at 25 C. Assume an extracellular concentration of 1 mM and intracellular concentration of 0.0001 mM . Show all your work. 2. What would happen to the resting potential of a cell if the K+ concentration outside the cell would double ? Why ? Assignments due in the plastic folder on my office door no later than September 30 at 5 PM. Early submissions are encouraged
