Accessing Web Databases from Off-Campus
(limited to current Widener University students, faculty, and staff)

From off campus, you must configure your browser to use the proxy server to access these databases. Following are instructions on configuring your browser. A minimum of Netscape 3.0 or Internet Explorer 3.02 is required, as earlier versions will not work.

Netscape 4.X

1.From the Menu Bar, select Edit.
2.Select Preferences.
3.Click on the + sign to the left of the Advanced option and select Proxies.
4.Click on the option button next to Automatic proxy configuration.
5.In the box called Configuration location (URL), type: http://147.31.63.12:8080/proxy.pac
6.Click on Reload, then click OK.

Netscape 3.X

1.From the Menu Bar, select Options.
2.Select Network Preferences.
3.Select the Proxies tab.
4.In the box called Configuration location (URL), type: http://147.31.63.12:8080/proxy.pac
5.Click on Reload, then click OK.

Internet Explorer 5.X

1.From the Menu Bar, select Tools.
2.Select Internet Options.
3.Select the Connections tab.
4.Under DialUp Settings, select the connection you are using to connect to the Internet.
5.Click the Settings button.
6.Check the box next to Use Automatic Configuration Script and type: http://147.31.63.12:8080/proxy.pac
7.Click OK twice.

Internet Explorer 4.X

1.From the Menu Bar, select View.
2.Select Internet Options.
3.Select the Connection tab.
4.In the box called Automatic Configuration click on Configure, type: http://147.31.63.12:8080/proxy.pac
5.Click on Refresh, then click OK twice.

Internet Explorer 3.02

1.From the Menu Bar, select View.
2.Select Options.
3.Select the Advanced tab.
4.Click on the button called Automatic Configuration
5.Enter: http://147.31.63.12:8080/proxy.pac
6.Click on Refresh, then click OK twice.
