My research and teaching areas include Microbiology and Genetics.  I teach courses in the Biology and Nursing curricula at Widener.  My research for the past several years has  focused on the biochemistry and genetics of antibiotic producing soil bacteria of the genus Streptomyces.  Current research projects in my lab include:

• isolation of strains of Streptomyces producing "novel" antimetabolites from soil samples collected from around the world; 


• separation and biochemical characterization of specific antibiotics; and


• molecular cloning of the antibiotic producing genes of new isolates of Streptomyces using recombinant plasmid shuttle vectors.
