If you know the background is going to be overexposed you know you're going to get purple fringing where the overexposed areas meet darker areas. Using exposure compensation will reduce the effect substantially.

The foreground is now exposed about the same here as
in the first shot, there is better color in the background, and C.A. has
been reduced considerably.
