Through Cooperative arrangements with other colleges, universities, and nonprofit
groups, Widener students can arrange a summer, semester, or year of study and/or work
overseas. Each semester the University sponsors a Study Overseas Panel where students hear
about a variety of options and meet Widener students who have returned from overseas.
Interested students are then directed to meet with the Coordinator for Overseas Studies. In subsequent individual
sessions, students can:
- discuss general goals and progress;
- find out about numerous programs through promotional materials and videos;
- meet with an academic advisor to discuss curricular options;
- obtain course transfer authorization using the overseas study course transfer form;
- notify the registrar of OC 100 (off campus) status;
- contact the staff of Career Advisement and Planning Services and/or the Co-op Office for advice on working overseas as an intern, co-op student, or worker on the economy;
- plan with the Financial Aid Office for receiving continued aid;
- make additional arrangements as required by the selected programs.
The number of Widener students going overseas indicates a growing interest in an international experience within the undergraduate career. The success of participants requires some curricular flexibility; which can be best realized when students take initiative early. Students in majors with few free electives should speak with their deans or assistant deans for additional information.
