Chapter History and Purpose
Sigma Pi Sigma is a nationally recognized professional honor society for physics. The society was founded in 1921 at Davidson College and presently has over 400 active chapters. The Widener University Chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma was established in 1968. It is an affiliate society of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the American Institute of Physics (AIP) and a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS). The primary goal of the society is to foster interest and excellence in physics.

Requirements for Membership
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA overall
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA in all Physics courses,
  • Completion of two semesters of introductory general physics
  • Completion of two courses in intermediate physics above the level of the introductory courses taken. (or completion of one intermediate course and enrollment in a second one with expected satisfactory completion by the end of the semester.
