The computer science department consists of five full-time faculty and offers two separate major programs, a major in Computer Science (CSCI) and a major in Computer Information Systems (CIS).

A separate computing facility supports the computer science programs, independent of the facilities that serve the computing needs of all university students.  This newly renovated computer science laboratory is housed in Kirkbride Hall, the science and engineering building, in room 219 and is run by the students majoring in computer science or computer information systems under the supervision of the faculty.  Students are hired as consultants and managers for this laboratory.

This computing facility consists of a network of new and late-model Intel-based machines including SMP machines.  It is supported by network printers.

A rich assortment of software is available, including translators for C, C++, Pascal, LISP, Prolog, FORTRAN, Python, Java, and Cilk.  Several operating systems are installed including, Windows NT and Linux.  The database software used is Oracle.
