Chemistry Department Goals and Objectives    


1. Promote effective written and oral communication skills
1.1. Students can give an effective scientific presentation.
1.2. Students can write an effective paper in journal format.
1.3. Students can use presentation tools to create effective tables, graphs, and chemical structures.
1.4. Students can use chemical nomenclature and structures
1.5. Students can represent physical phenomena mathematically

2. Promote appreciation of professional responsibility
2.1. Students can work safely in the laboratory.
2.2. Students can use chemicals without harming the environment.
2.3. Students demonstrate academic honesty

3. Promote a basic knowledge of the concepts of mathematics and science, particularly chemistry and the ability to apply this knowledge in the design, implementation, and analysis of experiments
3.1. Students can take an experimental procedure from the literature and reproduce the experiment
3.2. Students can design an experimental procedure to address a problem.
3.3. Students can compare theoretical calculations and experimental results.
3.4. Students can synthesize compounds.
3.5. Students can characterize compounds.
