News from the Rho Kappa Chapter at Widener
University
August 18, 2004
In the academic years 2002-2004, the student members of the Rho Kappa Chapter,
who have always been gifted researchers and students, turned their
attention to giving back to Widener University, to the Chester
community and to the word at large. Nicholas Caputo, 2003
graduate, who is presently attending medical school donated funds
to establish the Caputo Faculty Student Research Fund which will
provide research support for a biology major. In 2004, Widener's
Biological Society (which includes all of the Tri Beta
members as well as other biology and biochemistry majors) held pretzel
sales and other fund raisers in order sponsor a school in the Amazon
rainforest for one year and to support an urban horticultural program
at Smedley Middle School in Chester, PA.
Julie Greenwood goes on to medical school and will also
pursue a masters in public health. Shannon Gallagher goes on to a
Ph.D. program at Thomas Jefferson Medical School. Hareth and
Nisreen Madhoun, Khyati Patel and Jen Wilwert all continued their
independent research in summer 2004. Jon Schiavi continues research
here and at Drexel University while he completes his degree
requirements. New members Megan Donato and Alexis Ulreich also
pursue research at Widener this summer, while "Ram" Rameswaran is performing an internship at Centrocorp.
